OpenWise Learning (OWL) is part of the larger OpenWise social enterprise. OWL is a youth development organization serving marginalized kids by providing them STEM education emphasizing Technology, Social, and Ecological Justice. The foundation of our social justice curricula is the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We follow our young scholars from middle school through high school, providing them with educational and professional opportunities in the form of apprenticeships through our sister organization, OpenWise, and other partner organizations. Our aim is to develop leaders who are driven to make a positive impact on the world and who have the knowledge and tools to turn their ideas into reality.

Our Summer OWL Immersive

The OpenWise Learning (OWL) Immersive is the first program our Scholars take part in when they join us at OWL. We select applications from students ages 11 to 13 to participate in our three-week immersive program. We assess baseline skills and teach basic, intermediate, and advanced technology skills. Additionally, we integrate social justice and ecological justice curriculum through the introduction of lessons on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Scholars learn collaborative work lessons through teamwork. Skills and knowledge are reinforced through good-natured competition and gamification. The Scholars in the program are given a new Raspberry Pi computer with a monitor, keyboard, and mouse to use in their study and exploration during the program.

OWL Immersive Instructor (Paid Interns)

We are looking for instructor interns for our Summer 2025 Immersive program located in Washington, DC. Instructors will work with OWL staff instructors to help modify the existing curriculum as needed to meet the specific needs of the 2022 cohort of kids, occasionally share the duty of instructing the cohort in specific skills, or mentor individual scholars during our sessions or online through our learning management portal.

Two paid internship positions are available.

Dates: ● O rientation and training period: June 30th - July 3rd, 2025

● M ain program delivery: July 7th - August 8th, 2025 (8 AM - 4 PM daily)

Job Responsibilities:

● Complete OWL onboarding and training.

● Aid in lesson planning.

● Aid in Classroom Management.

● Aid in Instruction.

● Aid in Coding Mentorship.

● Arrive On Time Daily.

Skills & Qualifications:

● Intermediate proficiency in Python 3 preferred.

● Familiarity with game development, robotics, electrical engineering,

circuitry, app development, and related topics is a plus.

● You are eager to shape the skills, minds, and

trajectories of OWL Scholars.

● To work with children, you must have the COVID-19 vaccine and booster,

submit to and complete fingerprinting, TB Test, and background check process.
